Shiatsu Explained
What do quantum physics and ancient Oriental teachings have in common?
They both say the same thing – all living things are composed of energy. Even when things appear and feel 'physical' they are fundamentally a (complex) system of energy.
In the human body this energy system constantly strives to remain balanced and free flowing.
However due to physical stresses, pressure from our thoughts and emotions, poor nutrition or a harsh environment our body energy can get stuck, slow down and go out of balance. When this happens we succumb to physical and mental pain, discomfort and illness.
Shiatsu re-establishes the body's natural energy flow by pressing specific energy points and meridian channels and by stretching and moving the body. When this happens we get relief from our symptoms and the problems are resolved. But how is this possible?
In ancient times, long before synthetic drugs and modern surgical techniques were available, healers and physicians discovered that it was possible to access and influence the energy of which we are composed by pressing (shiatsu or acupressure) or needling (acupuncture) certain points and specific pathways on the body.
Over many centuries it became clear to them that these points and pathways were connected to the vital organs and body systems such as the respiratory, nervous, circulatory, digestive and muscular systems. And since the health of the organs and systems was affected by the flow of energy in the body, pressing or needling the points and stretching and moving the body could remove any energy blocks and the normal flow of energy could be restored.
Nutrition
My approach to nutrition comes from several sources – marcrobitic, raw food, living food, vegan, organic and wholefood - in essence the “simpler” the food, the better the result.
By simpler I mean less processed, less polluted, whole and plant based. Foods that have been grown in chemical-free soil, harvested and then eaten, either gently cooked or raw will have a hugely positive effect on you physically and mentally - as close as possible to how nature intended.
It is a myth that we need to consume animal flesh to be healthy, and it generally involves great cruelty to millions of animals every year.
Some of the main 'families' of natural foods include:
Grains including rice, barley, wheat, buckwheat, millet, quinoa,
Pulses and beans such as lentils, split peas, mung beans, aduki beans, kidney beans and many more,
A great variety of vegetables and fruits, cultivated or wild.
Seaweeds and grasses (wheat, barley and more) will give you added strength and vitality - good either juiced or powdered.
These foods can provide us with all the vitamins, minerals, proteins, cabohydrates and essentials fats that our body requires for a fit and healthy life.
